From the West - July 2011

Brethren,

Summer is upon us!  During the month of July, we celebrate an important holiday - Independence Day - which is a federal holiday celebrated every year on the Fourth of July.  This holiday celebrates the adoption by the thirteen original colonies - through the Second Continental Congress - of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776 in which they declared our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.  There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, and of those who signed nine were Freemasons.  Masonic signers included William Ellery, Joseph Hewes, William Hooper, Robert Treat Paine, Richard Stockton, George Walton, William Whipple, John Hancock - the first signer, and Benjamin Franklin - Past Grand Master of Pennsylvania (1734).

No more beautiful line has ever been penned than the closing line of the Declaration, which showed the zeal for our great country - the United States of America - by these men who stood up to be counted: " And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor."

Brothers, our Lodge is really beginning to come back.  We are seeing more members at our Stated Meetings, and more candidates are knocking on our doors every day.  If you haven't been to Lodge in awhile, come down and share in the fellowship!

Your Lodge Officers are working hard to bring you events and activities that we can all participate in.  They've been having meetings and discussions to formulate with your Master, Kevin, Ron Salda and myself a multi-year plan to not only sustain our Lodge but to help it blossom into one of the outstanding Lodges in all of California.  Your input is always welcome - it's YOUR Lodge - and we look forward to hearing from each of you.

We have some great events coming up, including a Golden Veteran Award this month at our Stated Meeting dinner for Brother Sam Holinger.  We have a SPECTACULAR Steak Fry coming up Friday, July 22nd to support our Lodge, and we are always adding new activities for our Ladies as well.  Bring your special lady to the Lodge on July 6th for our Ladies Activity which will take place in the Cafeteria during our Stated Meeting.

May peace and harmony be with you daily.

Fraternally,

Ray Dailey
Senior Warden
