LODGEThe word "lodge" has several different implications. A lodge may be operative, as in the early or pre-grand lodge period, or speculative, as in the modern sense. A lodge today generally refers to the place where the Freemason fraternity assembles to conduct its business. Historically, the lodge has been everything from a hut or shed to a magnificent structure worthy of architectural praise. There are several connotations ascribed to the word "lodge", but to Freemasonry, while it still refers to a place to meet, the word "lodge" in a larger sense, refers to the body of men constituting the fraternity. Particularly, to that group among whom no contention should ever exist, but who best can work and best agree.
