Mort Tandy - Golden Veteran Award

Brother Mort Tandy was born on 12/22/27 in Brooklyn, NY and moved to California in 1943. He graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, attended Compton Junior College and received his B.A. from U.C.L.A. and his teaching credential in 1949. He earned his M.A. in Elementary Administration in 1953 and his M.S. in Counseling and Guidance in 1969.

He spent 47 years as an elementary school teacher and high school counselor. From 1977-1981, he was on the City of Fullerton Human Relations Commission and from 1988-1994, on the City of Fullerton Community Services Commission.

Mort was married the first time in 1955 and moved to Fullerton in 1956. They had two daughters, Jill and Joy. His first wife passed away in 1981. He married again in 1984 and she passed away in 1991.

He currently has the wonderful Dorothy Ferguson as his significant other. He also has 2 granddaughters.

Mort was raised on 11/19/57 in Loyalty Lodge #529 in Playa Del Rey. He affiliated with Azure Lodge #533 in 1963, which consolidated with Anaheim Lodge #207 in 1996. He had an opportunity to go through the chairs in 1970. But he was playing softball 3 times a week and said he would consider it when he quit playing.

Now, at the age of 80 years, he is still playing softball with no end in sight. 2007 marks his 51st year of playing competitive softball.

Brother Tandy has been a candidate's coach for many years, some of which he was Head Candidates Coach. For that service to the lodge, he received the Hiram Award in 2005.
